Janadesh
Indian election results are public, but they are not accessible. They sit in PDFs, in statistical reports, in sites that get taken down. This is an attempt to put all of it in one place and keep it there.
What this is
An archive of Indian election results — every constituency, every candidate, every party — that you can read in a browser or query as JSON. Sixteen general elections from 1962 to 2024, and 384 state assembly elections from 1961 to 2026: some sixty-six thousand seat contests in all, and every candidacy fought in them.
The name means the verdict of the people. It is the word Indian newspapers reach for on counting day, and it is the only thing this site records: what people actually voted, seat by seat. The one exception is the upcoming elections page, and even there the dates are deadlines set by the Constitution, not guesses about when a poll will be called.
What it is not
Not a prediction site
There are no forecasts, models, or projections here. Every number on this site has already happened. The upcoming page says when a term expires, which is arithmetic, not when an election will be held, which is the Election Commission’s to announce.
Not aligned with anyone
No party, no candidate, no campaign. Parties are coloured by the convention Indian media has used for decades, so that a chart is readable at a glance — nothing more is meant by it.
Not tracking you
No analytics, no cookies, no accounts, no third-party scripts. Nothing you do here is recorded, so there is no consent banner to click.
Not the official record
The Election Commission of India publishes the official results. This is a reorganisation of public data, and where the two disagree, the Commission is right.
Using it
Everything is free to browse and free to query. The JSON API needs no key, has no rate limit, and is CORS-open, so a chart on your own page can read from it directly. The underlying data belongs to its sources — the Election Commission of India and the Trivedi Centre for Political Data at Ashoka University — and their terms govern its reuse. Please credit them, not this site.
How the dataset was built, checked, and where it falls short is documented in methodology & gaps. Read it before quoting a number.
